What is the proper water level in my pool? When the level is higher than half way up, the water often moves so slowly that debris passes by the opening without being pulled in. When the water is so high that it covers the skimmer opening, floating debris can't get in. If the water is too low, the skimmer can bottom out. This can cause air to be sucked into the system which can result in the pump losing the prime (water moving through the system) and possibly burning up your pump motor.
